Happy Mother’s Day! This week in the life of BCC we continued on with our series titled, “Reflecting God”. Pastor Jeni preached a sermon on “the grace gifts” that God grants each person that can then be used to benefit the church. She emphasizes that ALL have been given gifts and that ALL gifts are valuable. Join us as we read from 1 Corinthians 12:1-3 and discover how God gifts His children.

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
All Christians are spiritual, not just those who demonstrate ecstatic gifts.
All who proclaim Jesus is Lord are filled with the Holy Spirit and as a result have gifts of the Spirit.
The focus is on the Giver of the gifts and not on the gifts themselves.
The grace gifts of the Spirit are meant to bless & build up the church.
You have a grace gift bestowed upon you by God’s Spirit that you might contribute in every age & stage to the church.
All come from the same source, are of the same value, & have the same goal - benefit God’s church.
A FULLY FUNCTIONING BODY is the goal for every local church!

This week is week two in our new series titled, “Reflecting God” in which we discover how God made us to mirror his image in our world. This week we went to the New Testament to see how God created us with a good intention, but how sin distorted this good intention. Within the passages we see that God can take our muddied image and clean it to make us better reflect Him once again.

With the introduction of sin, the way humanity reflects God became muddied.
All throughout life, the Holy Spirit is at work in us clearing up our mirror that we might do what we were created to do: reflect God in the world.

Have you ever wondered how we as humans are reflections of God? How we were created? How we were intended to be in our creation? That is what we explore in week 1 of our new series titled, “Reflecting God”. This week, Pastor Jeni looks at the very beginning (Genesis 1) to discover some interesting ideals we can gain from how we were created by our God.

Male & Female together reflect the image of God.
Humankind - unlike any other part of creation - was created in the image of God.
There is something about God to be reflected into the world in each one of us.
We reflect God in our creation.
We reflect God in our care.
We reflect God in our cultivating.
We reflect God in our community.
Our origin story reveals God’s heart when he created the human race: Reflect God in the world.

This week at BCC we had with us District Superintendent of the North Arkansas District, Mark Lindstrom. He preached on the theological view on ordination as well as the belief that ALL are called to be the hands and feet of Christ. Through the Books of Numbers, Joel, Acts, and 1&2 Timothy, we discover more about God’s calling to all believers to be active participants in His plans.
Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
The Twelve were called and commissioned by Jesus himself.
The Seventy/Seventy-Two were sent out by the Lord’s command to proclaim the Kingdom.
After the Resurrection and Ascension, the Church gathered to worship Jesus and discern how to continue the ministry of the Lord.
At Pentecost, the gift of the Spirit is given, in fulfillment of the Old Testament’s expectation.
The Twelve commissioned others by ordination to continue the apostolic ministry in their generation until the end of time.
A well-equipped ministry of the laity is the WHY for having an equipping, ordained ministry of the clergy!

Specifically, Pastor Jeni honed back in on a lesser discussed concept of Holy Saturday. What happened between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday? What was Jesus doing as the disciples and ones who loved Him waited anxiously in seeming defeat? Join us as we journey into it.

If we believe that God wastes nothing, then Christ’s time in the grave was significant.
There is no place God will not go for the sake of his people.
Christ had the full human experience - even in death.
He went to wherever darkness & evil & death rules.
There, he proclaimed the GOOD NEWS & his ultimate victory over evil & death.
On Holy Saturday, Christ declared victory & authority over sin & death & evil.
The GOOD NEWS is that Christ has defeated darkness once & for all.
There is NOWHERE Christ would not go for you.
Because of that silent, holy Saturday, darkness operates on borrowed time. They know it. Do we live like we know it?

He is Risen. He is Risen indeed. This week was Easter, a wonderful time in the life of our church. We concluded our series titled, “A Consuming Fire”, this week with a sermon urging us to examine in ourselves where God might be telling us to “take a closer look” in our lives. Pastor Jeni says that sometimes controlled burns can provide growth and health. He is Risen.
May we experience a purifying and indwelling of the consuming fire of God.
Purifying that changes us — Indwelling that empowers us.

Sometimes life can feel like we are simply journeying to a grave.
Even the grand Roman Empire is helpless before the divine will of God.
Sometimes in life we have to take another look at Christ at work in our midst.
The resurrection story gives us hope to see light breaking in on the darkest of places.
Will we live as those with resurrection hope?

Jesus came as a different kind of King… & its a beautiful picture of grace!
Jesus is a King of peace.
Jesus came as a different kind of King… & they didn’t really want that.
Jesus was exactly what they needed, but they couldn’t see it.

Wholehearted love — obedience to God’s Laws — witness
God is straightforward — obedience leads to life. Disobedience leads to death.

As we approach the cross and resurrection of our Lord we must remember who our God is and avoid distractions so that can hear His voice and experience His presence. God doesn’t give up on us. Desire & distractions are everywhere.
The Israelites forgot.
What makes us forget God?
Consistent temptation for the people of God throughout history to forget who God has called us to be and to get distracted by all that we want.
Even when God brings judgement & justice he doesn’t give up on us.
God is never done calling, never done seeking restoration and renewal for all.
God can change hearts & He still is.

The Psalmist is longing for “home”.
In the presence of God is a joy like no other.
In the journey, with all its ups and downs, is abundant joy.
Once you have constant access to something it can become undervalued no matter how valuable it actually is.
Do we ache for God like that?
