Following up from last week’s kickstart of a new series, this week we had week 2 in our series titled, “Acts”. This week we looked at what the book of Acts had to say about prayer while also looking into what was said about who are the recipients of God’s action within Acts.

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  • 2,000 year later the Spirit is still moving and God is still building his church!

  • If you want to hear from God, spend time in prayer.

  • They had regular, daily appointments with God where they cultivated conversation with God.

  • God’s favor is not limited to a particular people but extends to persons in every nation.

  • God’s activity by his Spirit stretches across age groups, includes both men & women, & defies cultural status quo.

We started into a new series this week simply titled, “Acts”. You guessed it, within the Acts series we took a look at the book of Acts specifically checking out the event of Pentecost. Pastor Jeni takes us on a journey into Old Testament texts to show us that it was foretold long before it happened. But we can celebrate Pentecost and what it means for us even now.

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  • Pentecost sets the stage for our entire journey through Acts.

  • The new temple is Jesus’ new covenant people!

  • God’s Church is animated by a people filled with God’s Spirit.

  • God’s activity by His Spirit stretches across age groups, includes both men & women, & defies cultural status quo.

  • The Spirit empowers & unifies the people of God.

It is week 4 in our series titled, “Reflecting God” in which we have been discussing how the image of God is within all humans and we all are gifted by God in various ways. This week we look to 1 Peter 4 and Romans 12 to continue our conversation on the giver of gifts, our God, and how all gifts are miraculous.

Imago Dei - “image of God”

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  • God is the gift giver & this keeps us humble.

  • We reflect God to one another when we use our gifts to serve one another.

  • All gifts are miraculous!

  • Whatever your gifts, utilize them to the very best of your ability!

  • Do it well, do it joyfully, & do it as a reflection of God in the world!

Happy Mother’s Day! This week in the life of BCC we continued on with our series titled, “Reflecting God”. Pastor Jeni preached a sermon on “the grace gifts” that God grants each person that can then be used to benefit the church. She emphasizes that ALL have been given gifts and that ALL gifts are valuable. Join us as we read from 1 Corinthians 12:1-3 and discover how God gifts His children.

Imago Dei - “image of God”

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  • All Christians are spiritual, not just those who demonstrate ecstatic gifts.

  • All who proclaim Jesus is Lord are filled with the Holy Spirit and as a result have gifts of the Spirit.

  • The focus is on the Giver of the gifts and not on the gifts themselves.

  • The grace gifts of the Spirit are meant to bless & build up the church.

  • You have a grace gift bestowed upon you by God’s Spirit that you might contribute in every age & stage to the church.

  • All come from the same source, are of the same value, & have the same goal - benefit God’s church.

  • A FULLY FUNCTIONING BODY is the goal for every local church!

This week is week two in our new series titled, “Reflecting God” in which we discover how God made us to mirror his image in our world. This week we went to the New Testament to see how God created us with a good intention, but how sin distorted this good intention. Within the passages we see that God can take our muddied image and clean it to make us better reflect Him once again.

Imago Dei - “image of God”

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  • With the introduction of sin, the way humanity reflects God became muddied.

  • All throughout life, the Holy Spirit is at work in us clearing up our mirror that we might do what we were created to do: reflect God in the world.

  • Continuous invitation to be prisoners of hope for ourselves!

Have you ever wondered how we as humans are reflections of God? How we were created? How we were intended to be in our creation? That is what we explore in week 1 of our new series titled, “Reflecting God”. This week, Pastor Jeni looks at the very beginning (Genesis 1) to discover some interesting ideals we can gain from how we were created by our God.

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  • Male & Female together reflect the image of God.

  • Humankind - unlike any other part of creation - was created in the image of God.

  • There is something about God to be reflected into the world in each one of us.

    • We reflect God in our creation.

    • We reflect God in our care.

    • We reflect God in our cultivating.

    • We reflect God in our community.

  • Our origin story reveals God’s heart when he created the human race: Reflect God in the world.

This week at BCC we had with us District Superintendent of the North Arkansas District, Mark Lindstrom. He preached on the theological view on ordination as well as the belief that ALL are called to be the hands and feet of Christ. Through the Books of Numbers, Joel, Acts, and 1&2 Timothy, we discover more about God’s calling to all believers to be active participants in His plans.

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  • The Twelve were called and commissioned by Jesus himself.

  • The Seventy/Seventy-Two were sent out by the Lord’s command to proclaim the Kingdom.

  • After the Resurrection and Ascension, the Church gathered to worship Jesus and discern how to continue the ministry of the Lord.

  • At Pentecost, the gift of the Spirit is given, in fulfillment of the Old Testament’s expectation.

  • The Twelve commissioned others by ordination to continue the apostolic ministry in their generation until the end of time.

  • A well-equipped ministry of the laity is the WHY for having an equipping, ordained ministry of the clergy!

Following up from a wonderful Easter Sunday, we continue on with one more message in the mini-series, “Take Another Look”. Specifically, Pastor Jeni honed back in on a lesser discussed concept of Holy Saturday. What happened between Good Friday and Resurrection Sunday? What was Jesus doing as the disciples and ones who loved Him waited anxiously in seeming defeat? Join us as we journey into it.

I believe in… Jesus Christ…

He descended to the dead.

On the third day He rose again.

Excerpt from The Apostles Creed

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  • If we believe that God wastes nothing, then Christ’s time in the grave was significant.

  • There is no place God will not go for the sake of his people.

    • Christ had the full human experience - even in death.

    • He went to wherever darkness & evil & death rules.

    • There, he proclaimed the GOOD NEWS & his ultimate victory over evil & death.

  • On Holy Saturday, Christ declared victory & authority over sin & death & evil.

  • The GOOD NEWS is that Christ has defeated darkness once & for all.

  • There is NOWHERE Christ would not go for you.

  • Because of that silent, holy Saturday, darkness operates on borrowed time. They know it. Do we live like we know it?

He is Risen. He is Risen indeed. This week was Easter, a wonderful time in the life of our church. We concluded our series titled, “A Consuming Fire”, this week with a sermon urging us to examine in ourselves where God might be telling us to “take a closer look” in our lives. Pastor Jeni says that sometimes controlled burns can provide growth and health. He is Risen.

May we experience a purifying and indwelling of the consuming fire of God.

Purifying that changes us — Indwelling that empowers us.

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  • Sometimes life can feel like we are simply journeying to a grave.

  • Even the grand Roman Empire is helpless before the divine will of God.

  • Sometimes in life we have to take another look at Christ at work in our midst.

  • The resurrection story gives us hope to see light breaking in on the darkest of places.

  • Will we live as those with resurrection hope?

Do you need to take another look?

Palm Sunday. A day of victory. It also the sixth week in our series, “A Consuming Fire”! In this series we have ventured to all corners of the Bible to discover what God says about how he calls us to purification in a way like a refining fire. This week, through the books of Zechariah and Exodus, we celebrate Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday: what it meant then and now.

May we experience a purifying and indwelling of the consuming fire of God.

Purifying that changes us — Indwelling that empowers us.

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  • Jesus came to Jerusalem victorious.

  • Jesus came as a different kind of King… & its a beautiful picture of grace!

  • Jesus is a King of peace.

  • Jesus came as a different kind of King… & they didn’t really want that.

  • Jesus was exactly what they needed, but they couldn’t see it.

  • Is Jesus the kind of King we want?

  • In what way is Jesus not what you expected?

It is the fifth week in our series, “A Consuming Fire”! In this series we have ventured to all corners of the Bible to discover what God says about how he calls us to purification in a way like a refining fire. This week, through the books of Zechariah, Proverbs, and Exodus, we find that chaos is everywhere, but in this chaos we have hope and stability in God.

May we experience a purifying and indwelling of the consuming fire of God.

Purifying that changes us — Indwelling that empowers us.

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  • Chaos is everywhere.

  • In the midst of chaos, there is a choice to be made: trust in God or give way to fear.

  • God’s unfailing love provides stability in the chaos of life.

  • Are you confident in God?

  • Let chaos create connection.
