In week two of our series in Romans, Pastor Beau carried on reading and preaching on Romans 5-8. He built upon the fact that Romans carries the essentials of the Good News and dove deeper into some of the specifics of those essentials. We are not simply meant to receive salvation and stop in our spiritual lives, but continue to pursue holiness throughout our lives.
Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
Romans was born out of a desire to unify a diverse church around the essentials of the Good News.
Hope that unifies and endures suffering of the present and guarantees final salvation in Christ
Justification not only frees us from past sin, but opens up new possibilities in our future.
Hope — Romans 5:1-11
Hope does more than survive the suffering, but it is produced in the suffering.
Adam and Christ — Romans 5
The crucifixion of Jesus was the final nailing to the cross of our old self and his resurrection was the raising of our new self.
Baptism — Romans 6
The fruit of justification can only be sustained through total self-abandonment to righteousness.
Law — Romans 7
Jesus fulfilled the law for us that it might be fulfilled in us.
Life in the Spirit — Romans 8
Jesus became a man of flesh so that we might become men and women of the Spirit.
Hope — Romans 8:38-39

We started into a new series this week at BCC titled, “Romans”. To kick it off, Pastor Jeni preached on why the book was written and how the beginning of it impacts our lives today. We finished the day by adventuring into the topic of justification by faith in Christ.
Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
Romans was born out of a desire to unify a diverse church around the essentials of the Good News.
Human pride creates the illusion of self-sufficiency & blind to the possibility of life right with God.
God is righteous & humans have a sin problem. Thanks be to God, it doesn’t stop there!
Outward things only matter if they reflect a heart transformed by the Good News.
The One who by His nature must be the judge also positioned Himself to become our defense attorney.
Jesus became what we are so we could become what He is.
JUSTIFICATION by faith in Christ…
New STATUS: right with God & forgiven
New FAMILY: included in God’s people
New FUTURE: transformed life

This week was our grand finale and the sixth week of our series in Acts. Pastor Jeni honed in on Acts 28:17-31 NLT as she reminded us that NOTHING can stop God’s Church from spreading and thriving.
Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
Conviction that the Good News was for all meant that Paul really had hope for his Jewish community to recognize Jesus as Messiah.
God always fulfills his promises.
The prophetic word depicts Jewish resistance in 3 ways:
Their hearts become calloused & impervious to God’s will & guidance.
Their ears had difficulty hearing (meaning accepting & obeying) the Gospel message
Their eyes were shut to the workings of God
May our hearts be soft to God’s will & guidance.
May our ears not just hear, but accept & obey God’s voice.
May our eyes be opened to see the work of God all around us.
Not even the great Roman empire could stop God’s Church.
Not even the great FILL IN THE BLANK can stop God’s Church.
The story of God’s church is still being written & we are a part of it.
How will we participate in what God has promised He will do?

In our fifth week within the book of Acts and the series titled the same, we find Paul speaking to Christians in his only address specifically to them in the entire book. Pastor Jeni preaches on Paul’s consistency to preach to them in confidence given to him by God. She describes that our journey with God might not be easy - as Paul affirms - but that we can be assured that God is walking ahead to prepare the way for our sharing with others.
Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
This is Paul’s only speech addressing Christians in Acts.
Paul was consistent.
The Spirit can still guide us by “divine compulsion” today!
The way of Jesus will not be absent of friction…nor will it be absent of joy
All we can do is share & trust that God’s prevenient grace is at work.
The enemy of God will always be against His Church, but the One who conquered the grave holds the Church secure!

We continued in our journey through the book of Acts this week, specifically lookin at Acts 17:22-34. Pastor Jeni preached on the necessity of God in all of our lives. God cannot be contained or confined. He wants to be with us and within us at all times. Sometimes we take that for granted, sometimes we can miss God by being focused on too many other things. We must meet God and carry Him to others with creativity given by Him.
Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
It’s possible to be very religious or spiritual and completely miss it all together.
Ask God to give us divinely inspired creativity to meet people somewhere familiar with the Good News.
God is creator, sustainer, and provider of all things.
God doesn’t need our worship or affection. We need to be worshippers of God.
The greatest pursuit in life is God!

This week we continued into our series on the book of Acts as Youth Pastor Beau Hamilton preached from Acts 14:8-20. Here we find that Jesus is who He says he is and that we are called to do what God commands no matter what.
Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
When we follow a Jesus we invented, we miss the life he actually promised. That is life and life to the fullest.
Paul does not try to fit Jesus into their story, but Paul reorients their story around the work of Jesus.
We walk back into those spaces and walk back into the lives of those around us.

This week we had with us two of the newest missionaries within our denomination, David and Kristin Sterner.
David and Kristen Sterner, along with their three sons—Levi, David, and Carter—are missionaries headed to Lima, Peru in the Andino Central Field Office.
David and Kristen have been married since 2021 and share a deep love for ministry and for seeing God’s Kingdom grow across cultures. Kristen is an ordained elder and brings experience in pastoral ministry and discipleship. David has worked faithfully in both professional and church settings, where he has been a key volunteer and leader, serving wherever there is a need.
Kristen will be supporting Nazarene Compassionate Ministries on the field while David is responsible for field finance. They love coffee and making new friends, so find them after the service!

Taking a break from our series in the book of Acts, this week we had General Superintendent Dr. David Busic with us. He preached on intercessory prayer: its importance, its relational aspect, and how to do it well. Join us for a wonderful message by one of our denomination’s great leaders.
Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
Intercession is specifically praying for those God has providentially placed in your circle of relationships.
Intercession is specific.
The gift of intercession is praying with discernment.
The power of intercession provides protection.
The Practice of Intercession
Begin with those you live with and know best.
Pray for colleagues and ministry partners.
Pray for what is important to you.
Pray over divine appointments.

Following up from last week’s kickstart of a new series, this week we had week 2 in our series titled, “Acts”. This week we looked at what the book of Acts had to say about prayer while also looking into what was said about who are the recipients of God’s action within Acts.
Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
2,000 year later the Spirit is still moving and God is still building his church!
If you want to hear from God, spend time in prayer.
They had regular, daily appointments with God where they cultivated conversation with God.
God’s favor is not limited to a particular people but extends to persons in every nation.
God’s activity by his Spirit stretches across age groups, includes both men & women, & defies cultural status quo.

We started into a new series this week simply titled, “Acts”. You guessed it, within the Acts series we took a look at the book of Acts specifically checking out the event of Pentecost. Pastor Jeni takes us on a journey into Old Testament texts to show us that it was foretold long before it happened. But we can celebrate Pentecost and what it means for us even now.
Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
Pentecost sets the stage for our entire journey through Acts.
The new temple is Jesus’ new covenant people!
God’s Church is animated by a people filled with God’s Spirit.
God’s activity by His Spirit stretches across age groups, includes both men & women, & defies cultural status quo.
The Spirit empowers & unifies the people of God.

It is week 4 in our series titled, “Reflecting God” in which we have been discussing how the image of God is within all humans and we all are gifted by God in various ways. This week we look to 1 Peter 4 and Romans 12 to continue our conversation on the giver of gifts, our God, and how all gifts are miraculous.
Imago Dei - “image of God”
Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:
God is the gift giver & this keeps us humble.
We reflect God to one another when we use our gifts to serve one another.
All gifts are miraculous!
Whatever your gifts, utilize them to the very best of your ability!
Do it well, do it joyfully, & do it as a reflection of God in the world!
