Full Sermon
Bentonville Community Church

It is the final week in our series on the Fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5. Pastor Jeni finishes up the series by preaching on the topic of Self-Control then tying it together with a summation of the whole series.

Notes from Sunday’s Sermon:

  1. Self-Control - Mastery over, temperance, to control oneself, chastity.

“The trait of resolutely controlling one’s own desires (which would produce actions); especially sensual desires”

  2. Was it not self-control - or lack thereof - that led to the first sin?

  3. In the garden, the serpent convinced the humans that God was withholding something good from them & they set aside self-control for self-indulgence.

  4. Holy Spirit empowered self-control is the instinct to flee from spaces, places, things, & even people that tempt us to walk in the flesh rather than the Spirit.

  5. Sober-minded - to be sober, to be self-controlled, to be well composed of mind.

  6. What can “intoxicate” to the point of decision-making influence?

  7. The Holy Spirit wants to empower us to be in control over all the “intoxicant” of life that might cloud our decisions.

We don’t bear fruuit to just let it sit on the vine & eventually rot away. We bear fruit so that it might be given away.
